The victim of yesterday afternoon at Cala has been identified as Carmelo Monteleone, a sixty-four year old carpenter. At the time of the tragedy, he did not have any identification documents which made it difficult for the authorities to identify him. According to reports and eyewitness accounts, the man was riding a bicycle at the marina when he suddenly fell ill and ended up in the sea. Fishermen tried to save him by jumping into the water and bringing him to the pier. Despite the efforts of the paramedics who arrived on the scene, they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead. Police, coast guard, and firefighters also responded to the incident.
