Madonie hiker falls and gets injured in Zafferana Etnea: rescued at night by Alpine Rescue

The Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue team conducted a nighttime rescue operation in the Madonie mountains to save a 65-year-old hiker from Catania who had a fall while hiking near Piano Battaglia. The man, part of a group that had embarked on a hike to the highest peak in the Madonie mountains, suffered a head injury along with lacerations and abrasions after rolling down a steep off-trail section. Concerned about his condition, his companions called the emergency number 112, and the 118 central control center alerted the Alpine Rescue team. The team reached the hiker and assisted him in reaching a plateau where an ambulance from Petralia Sottana was waiting to transport him to the local hospital’s emergency room.
