Madonie, four cyclists from Catania get lost in the paths: hours of research, then they are saved

Four cyclists from Catania, two men aged 39 and 52 and two women aged 40 and 45, got lost in the Madonie paths. Thanks to the intervention of the operations room of the Palermo firefighters and the Palermo Alpine Rescue station, they were recovered and saved.

The four had arrived in the Madonie in the morning by car, with mountain bikes in tow, intending to follow a route of over 20 kilometers from the Pomieri refuge, near Piano Battaglia, to Piano Sempria and back. But not knowing the places well, they got lost.

The search activity lasted several hours as there was no telephone coverage in the stretch where they were lost. The missing provided the coordinates, identified thanks to a compass, which turned out to be wrong. According to those data, the small group of cyclists would have been in the Caltanissetta area. Thanks to the Nue (single emergency number) the cell where the four were found was found, in the San Mauro Castelverde area. The Petralia and Cefalù fire brigade teams were sent here. The Alpine Rescue, the foresters and the Carabinieri were also alerted. As soon as it was possible to contact him again, the small group was directed to the Piano Pomo refuge in Castelbuono. There they were assisted and then taken back to their cars, which were parked at the Pomieri.
