Lentini landfill set to reopen tomorrow after waste emergency, but may take days to fully resolve.

The Treatment mechanical and biological plant (Tmb) of the mixed waste landfill of Sicula trasporti, currently under judicial administration, is moving towards reopening. This was revealed during a meeting on the waste emergency held at Palazzo Minoriti in Catania, the headquarters of the Prefecture. Arpa technicians carried out an inspection of the facility and will report to the Region on the situation. The initiative could lead to the unblocking of the Tmb plant, but it will take several days to return to normality in waste collection and disposal.

It is not excluded that there will be a new measure by the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, or one that complements the one already issued yesterday evening. The meeting at Palazzo Minoriti was attended by the Prefect, Maria Carmela Librizzi, the acting prosecutor Agata Santonocito, the regional Energy councilor, Roberto Di Mauro, the mayors of Catania, Enrico Trantino, of Acireale, Roberto Barbagallo, and of Misterbianco, Marco Corsaro, as well as the governor of Sicily’s chief of staff and regional technicians.
