The Italian Guardia di Finanza has seized illegal fishing nets from a Tunisian fishing boat (Halima) and escorted it to the port of Lampedusa. Two individuals on board the boat managed to escape. However, they were later spotted near a sports field by the Guardia di Finanza. They were taken to the island’s hotspot and claimed to have set sail from Monastir on Monday afternoon for a fishing trip. Meanwhile, the fishing boat has left the port to return to Monastir. During the night, 77 Tunisians (including 5 women and 9 minors) arrived, stating that they had paid two thousand dinars each to sail from Sfax. Another 46 individuals (including 4 women and 1 minor) were spotted by the Carabinieri in Cala Madonna. They claimed to have paid three thousand Tunisian dinars each to sail from Sfax on a 7-meter metal boat, which has not yet been found by the military. On board were people from Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Mali, Senegal, Guinea, and Sudan.
