Lampedusa, New Year’s Eve brings 4 small boats with 139 migrants: overcrowded hotspot

Landings also during New Year’s Eve and at dawn on Lampedusa. 139 migrants arrived with four different small boats. Yesterday 304 people landed on the island. At the contrada Imbriacola hotspot, this morning, there were 1,353 guests compared to just under 400 places available. The small boats, rescued by the coast guard and financial police, from immediately after midnight until dawn, had on board 39 refugees (7 women and 3 minors), 39 (10 women and 4 minors), 30 (6 women) and 31 (5 women and 3 minors). All vessels appear to have set sail from Sfax, Tunisia. The latest disembarked said they were from Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Cameroon.
