Lampedusa faces continuous landings and overcrowded reception center

A new wave of landings has occurred in Lampedusa, with 1,202 people arriving within 26 hours. 394 migrants landed just overnight, with six boats carrying 35 to 136 people each rescued. This adds to the 19 landings the previous day, totaling 903 people. The Lampedusa hotspot currently hosts 1,430 migrants, with 262 transferred elsewhere. Another 169 migrants arrived this morning on four different boats. Assistance and transfers continue, with 230 set to leave the island on a ferry to Porto Empedocle. The influx of migrants shows no signs of stopping.
