Lampedusa, endless tragedy: two shipwrecks, about thirty missing from the roll call
#Agrigento
According to the mediators of the International Organization for Migration, there have been two shipwrecks in Lampedusa, with approximately thirty migrants missing. The refugees themselves have reported that the first shipwreck resulted in the recovery of the bodies of a one-year-old child and a woman. Initially, it was believed that the pregnant woman was on the second boat, but it has now been determined that around thirty individuals are missing from the second shipwreck in the Sicilian Channel. The tragedy occurred a couple of hours before the port authorities were able to provide assistance. In the first boat, forty-five people were saved, but there are still three missing: a woman and two men. On the second boat, which also departed from Sfax, Tunisia on Thursday, there were forty-two Sub-Saharan Africans, with fourteen survivors being rescued. Therefore, it is estimated that there are less than thirty individuals missing. The Agrigento prosecutor’s office has entrusted the investigation to the mobile team, who are currently interrogating the survivors.
