The winner of the title ‘Italian Capital of the Book’ will be announced on Friday 7 May, at 11.00.. The jury, chaired by Romano Montroni, will communicate to the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, the city designated for 2021. There are six finalist cities competing for the title: Ariano Irpino, Caltanissetta, Campobasso, Cesena, Pontremoli and Vibo Valentia.
The winning city will receive from the ministry of culture, through the Center for Book and Reading, a contribution of 500 thousand euros for the realization of the project. The Italian Book Capital was established by Minister Franceschini in 2020, pursuant to law no. 15 for the promotion and support of reading.
The title of the first edition was conferred by the CDM, on the proposal of the Minister of Culture, to the municipality of Chiari in the province of Brescia, one of the countries most affected by the Covid-19 epidemic which in the hardest months of the lockdown found precisely in reading , carried out through the administration’s social channels, one of the tools to support the community. The ceremony will be broadcast online on the Youtube channel of the Ministry of Culture.
