Increased maritime connections to the Aeolian Islands, but the Laurana ship stops

The summer season is starting to pick up in the Aeolian Islands and from Saturday, June 1st, maritime connections with hydrofoils and ships will be strengthened. However, in addition to the 3 ships seized for a year and the Nerea of Siremar stopped for 12 days in the port of Lipari, yesterday afternoon (May 30th) the Laurana also stopped due to a technical problem. This morning, the Siremar company announced that the fault has already been resolved and as soon as there is formal approval from the maritime authorities, it will depart from Milazzo for Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, and Naples. Passengers, tourists and islanders who were affected by the suspension of the ferry trip yesterday will be able to request a refund for food and accommodation expenses. In the afternoon, since the hydrofoils are already running at full capacity, there will also be an extraordinary run of the fast Liberty Lines vessel departing from Milazzo at 4:15 pm heading to Vulcano, Lipari, Salina, and returning. Starting from tomorrow, the summer connections will begin. Liberty Lines will operate the daily hydrofoil connection to and from Palermo. Departure from Lipari at 7:50 am with arrival in Palermo at 11:35 am. Departure from Palermo at 1:30 pm and arrival in Lipari at 5:15 pm.

The increase in runs will also involve the main port of Milazzo with the Siremar ships and hydrofoils, as well as from Messina and Reggio Calabria in connection with the main flights from Rome and Milan. The connections with the ship from Naples to the Aeolian Islands will also be increased. And as usual, there will be a line with the Snav hydrofoil. However, a serious problem in the Aeolian Islands is the stoppage of the new Siremar ship Nerea, which has not been released by the Barcelona prosecutor’s office after the maritime incident. Islanders and tourists are facing difficulties in finding seats on the fast vessels.

For a year now, three ex-Ngi ferries are still seized and absorbed by Caronte & Tourist, which should also be used in other Sicilian islands, but despite the company’s adjustments for the disabled, they are still blocked in the ports. Yesterday there was a peaceful demonstration on the quay in Lipari and the regional transport assessor Alessandro Aricò reported that the release could be a matter of days and alternatively Caronte is ready to put another ferry into service.
