In Palermo’s Pagliarelli prison, inmates perform in theater

The article talks about a group of inmate-actors from the prison of Pagliarelli “Antonio Lorusso” in Palermo, Italy, who are returning to the stage with a new production by the Evasioni Company. The play, titled “(Dis)Enchantment” and directed by Daniela Mangiacavallo, reflects on the ability of humans to still experience enchantment in today’s world. The project is part of the “Per Aspera ad Astra” initiative, aimed at bringing theater to prisons to help in the personal identity recovery and social reintegration of inmates. The project, now in its sixth edition, involves fourteen Italian prisons, with the Compagnia della Fortezza in Volterra as a leading partner.
