Illegal yacht seized from Tunisian in Trapani

The military personnel of the Financial Guard of Trapani, together with officials from the Customs and Monopoly Agency, carried out the preventive seizure of a recreational boat registered under the United States flag, Delaware department, owned by a Tunisian citizen, which was brought into the customs territory of the European Union. The seizure was validated by the judge. The 52-foot Princess yacht, worth about 180,000 euros, was found during checks on boats in European ports. According to regulations, boats are allowed to stay for a maximum of 18 months. It was discovered that this yacht had been in Sicily since 2021 without fulfilling the required customs procedures, particularly the payment of a 39,600 euro import VAT. The owner is facing charges of customs smuggling and may be fined between 10,000 and 50,000 euros, two to ten times the evaded taxes, in addition to possible imprisonment if the evaded amount exceeds the mentioned threshold.
