Il Frecciarosa in Sicilia: journey for breast cancer prevention from Palermo to Messina.
The “treno della prevenzione” (prevention train) for breast cancer is currently traveling between Palermo and Messina. This initiative, called Frecciarosa, is organized by Fondazione IncontraDonna and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister’s Office. It aims to reach a wide and diverse audience by having doctors and volunteers on board the train. The train has made stops in various cities in Sicily, offering consultations and distributing health brochures. This year, the project has been honored with the Medal of the President of the Republic for its significant social and national value. The initiative aims to promote breast cancer prevention, which is the most common cancer in Italy. Another addition this year is the distribution of a Vaccination Disc, which promotes a culture of vaccinations for all ages. The project’s main strength is the distribution of the Health Handbook on board the train, providing information on healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention. This year, the booklet has also been translated into English and is available on the frecciarosa.it website, where teleconsultations will also be offered twice a week throughout the month.
