Heat returns to Sicily, orange alert in nine provinces and risk of fires.

The temperatures are rising again in Sicily, with a pre-orange alert for the risk of wildfires issued by the civil protection in all nine provinces for Wednesday, June 26, with a warning. The danger level ranges from low to medium, with low danger in Agrigento, Enna, Messina, Palermo, Siracusa, and Trapani, and medium danger in Caltanissetta, Catania, and Ragusa. There are no heatwaves forecasted in Palermo, Catania, and Messina, where the temperature will be around 30 degrees.

β€œThe south – says weather expert Paolo Corazzon – is affected by clouds coming from North Africa, which, in contrast with a mass of humidity, have caused these downpours. But starting tomorrow (Wednesday, June 26) summer will definitively begin.”

The stability in the coming days will lead to a rise in temperatures, peaking in the last weekend of June, with values rapidly increasing by 8-10 degrees above average. According to the Italian Meteo Center, a very rapid heatwave is also expected in the first days of July.

There have been ten fires today, Tuesday, June 25, in Sicily, involving firefighters, forest rangers, civil protection volunteers, and aircrafts, including Canadair and helicopters. One fire in Agrigento, two in Caltanissetta, three in Catania, two in Messina, and two in Palermo. In Agrigento, fires ravaged Mediterranean vegetation in Licata, Gela, and Mazzarino. In Catania, fires occurred in Caltagirone and Mineo. In Messina, fires were reported in a landfill and in Melia. In Palermo, fires occurred in Bompietro and Belmonte Mezzagno.
