Gaetano Armao has been chosen by Governor Renato Schifani to lead the Technical-Scientific Committee. Armao, a former budget assessor, will be responsible for approving major projects, ranging from photovoltaic and wind energy to waste disposal and quarries. This appointment comes after Schifani had already assigned Armao the role of a super consultant for European funds. Armao replaces Aurelio Angelini as the head of the committee, which has been criticized for hindering projects and investments. Armao himself had previously accused Angelini and had also clashed with Schifani. The governor has prioritized streamlining the authorization procedures for major projects, which includes reforming the Cts and appointing new leadership. Armao, who represented the third pole in Sicily during the regional elections less than a year ago, is now firmly aligned with the center-right.
