Gds: “Study by a team of professors from the University of Palermo« More infections after returning to school »”

Today’s edition of the “Giornale di Sicilia” focuses on the study of a team of professors from the University of Palermo.

There is a link between the increase in infections and the reopening of schools. The data, collected from the month of October to today, on a sample of 4000 Sicilian schools of all types and levels, showed that in the areas where the teaching structures are divided, ten days earlier than the others, there was an increase of 2 % on Coronavirus infections.

«This study was born from a consideration – explains Michele Battisti, professor of economics at the faculty of law in Palermo -.
We asked ourselves what the impact of the reopening of schools on infections could be, taking into account that children can be asymptomatic and schools have had different starts. This +2 percent in the areas where schools have resumed teaching in the presence of others before, may seem a small number but if every ten days there were an additional 2 percent, the data would not be so indifferent. It is clear that we are not against school closures. It is a fundamental right for children and young people to go to school. We have limited ourselves to observing reality and what is happening around us. Then the government bodies will decide what to do, also on the basis of these data ”.
