Funeral ceremony for mother and daughter after fire in Vittoria, to take place in Tunisia

The Islamic community paid their last respects to the bodies of Mariem Sassi and her daughter Samah Zaouali, who died in the fire on June 13th at their home in Piazza Unità in Vittoria, set by their son and brother. After the Salat al-Janazaf, the funeral prayer led by Imam Habib Trabelsi from Comiso, the bodies of the two women were sent to Tunisia. The Islamic funeral will be held in Gasa, the family’s hometown. Members of the Islamic community of Vittoria were present, as well as the 25-year-old daughter Ibtisem, who studies Communication Sciences in Turin but was in Berlin for Erasmus and has returned to Vittoria. The city of Vittoria declared a day of mourning. The local authorities and school representatives were also present. Omaima, the youngest daughter who survived the tragedy along with her father Kamel, is still hospitalized in Catania, while her father is in Palermo. The brother, Wajdi, 29 years old, who set the fire with the intention of exterminating his family, is in prison in Ragusa.
