UniCredit has finalized a financing operation of 1.8 million euros for the A.I.A.S. (Italian Association for Assistance to Spastics) of Gela. The A.I.A.S. of Gela provides rehabilitation services and assistance to people with disabilities, offering different types of treatments such as outpatient, day care, and home care. The organization currently employs around 90 professionals, including neurology specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and professional educators. Their services cover the southern part of the province of Caltanissetta and a portion of the province of Agrigento.

The funding provided by UniCredit will be used for the construction of a new Socio-Rehabilitation Center, which will complement the existing facilities and services. The center will include a healthcare facility, an area for hippotherapy, a sports zone with tennis courts and archery surrounded by green spaces. Additionally, a 24-hour residential assistance service will be offered to individuals with severe disabilities. The new Rehabilitation Center, called “Dopo di Noi” (After Us), is aimed at people with physical and mental disabilities who either do not have parents capable of taking care of them or cannot benefit from their support.

Upon achieving the stated social goals, increasing service provision, introducing a 24-hour long-term care service, and providing assistance to individuals with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, which are currently not available in the area, UniCredit will grant additional benefits through the “pay for success” scheme, in the form of an additional donation of 10,000 euros.

“We are proud to support the construction of a new Socio-Rehabilitation Center by the A.I.A.S. of Gela, an association that professionally dedicates itself to the needs of people in difficult situations,” says Salvatore Malandrino, UniCredit’s Regional Manager for Sicily. “This represents UniCredit’s commitment to supporting projects of entrepreneurial ventures and the third sector that contribute concretely to the sustainable development of our region.”

“The third sector organizations, including the A.I.A.S. of Gela, act as sentinels in the community, understanding the needs of the territory and contributing to providing an overall framework for intervention,” comments Anna Maria Longo, legal representative of the A.I.A.S. of Gela. “Many people who directly or indirectly experience disabilities find themselves in a situation where they cannot provide certainty for their families’ future. This is why the idea and the need to create places like ‘Dopo di Noi’ arise, in order to guarantee peace of mind to families and appropriate services to the users who will be guests at the facility. We thank UniCredit for their financial support and Confeserfidi for facilitating the connection with the bank.”
