From Military Service to Priesthood: The Calling of a 38-Year-Old During the Mission in Kosovo

Giuseppe Maltese, a 38-year-old military man from Alcamo, Italy, has decided to become a priest. He was ordained in the Order of the religious congregation of Don Luigi Orione, founder of the Piccola opera della Divina Provvidenza. The ceremony took place in the basilica of Santa Maria Assunta in Alcamo and was presided over by Monsignor Giovanni D’Ercole. Maltese’s calling to priesthood became stronger during his service in the eighth Bersaglieri regiment, where he participated in various peace missions, including in Kosovo. Upon his return, Maltese started attending seminary and eventually moved to Rome to study at the Salesian University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. He has already celebrated his first mass in the presence of his family and the community, who welcomed him with great joy. In a few days, Don Giuseppe will be leaving for Elbasan, in central Albania, where he will serve as a vice parish priest.
