The Rome Court acquitted the former president of the Administrative Justice Council, Judge Raffaele De Lipsis, of the charge of illicit influence trafficking, defended by lawyers Lillo Fiorello and Salvatore Sciullo. The judge’s name appeared in the order of the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office in the context of the investigation by the Carabinieri of Trapani “Mare Monstrum”. The case involved a major corruption scheme against the Sicilian Region, involving the owners of Liberty Lines, Vittorio and Ettore Morace. Vittorio, who has since passed away, was acquitted, while his son Ettore pleaded guilty to corruption charges. Also implicated in the investigation was the former mayor of Trapani and former regional deputy of Forza Italia, Mimmo Fazio, who was sentenced to 4 years and six months for corruption. Fazio was acquitted of disclosing official secrets and illicit influence trafficking, a charge he shared with Judge De Lipsis, whose case was transferred from Trapani to Rome for territorial jurisdiction.
