A twenty-year-old, Matteo Urzì, from Piedimonte Etneo, died in a road accident on the A18 Messina-Catania. His parents, who were traveling with him in a van that overturned before being hit by a truck, were injured. The accident occurred at 6:20 along the lane heading towards the city of the Strait, between the exits of Fiumefreddo di Sicilia and Giardini Naxos. In addition to the ambulance service, the fire brigade and the highway police intervened. Long queues formed between the exits of Giarre and Giardini Naxos, as well as queues on State Road 114.
