First MasterChef fans’ degree arrives in Palermo

The University of Palermo in Sicily has established a three-year degree program in Gastronomic Sciences, specifically catering to fans of Masterchef. The program, offered by the Department of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Sciences, will include internships at enogastronomical companies and contact with chefs. The curriculum, created in collaboration with the National Association of Professional Gastronomers, will also include educational trips, internships, and placements both in Italy and abroad. This is the first program of its kind in Sicily, and one of the few in the South of Italy. The aim is to train gastronomes who possess a wide range of knowledge from the agricultural characteristics of ingredients to the various steps in the production process. The enogastronomy sector has been growing in importance in Sicily, with protected products worth 535 million euros per year. Potential job opportunities will be available in production, commercialization, and consulting within the gastronomy sector, as well as in the agri-food industry.
