Fires reignite in Palermo and Trapani provinces, largest in Caccamo.

The long summer of fire in Sicily seems to have no end. On the day of another red alert for fire risk on the island, wildfires have already been registered in the provinces of Palermo and Trapani. The largest fire is in the Musotto district in Caccamo, where several fire fighter teams and forest rangers are in action. The flames, fueled by the sirocco wind, spread within a few minutes and aerial intervention was also necessary. The area is far from residential areas but difficult to access. There is also a fire in the Piano Stoppa area in Misilmeri, where firefighters are working to contain the flames as quickly as possible and prevent them from spreading to other areas that have already been heavily affected by fires in July and September. In Palermo, there are also flames in the medians of Viale Regione Siciliana. Fires are reported near the former Motel Agip and near the former Grande Migliore. Smoke has engulfed multiple lanes, limiting visibility for drivers and causing heavy traffic delays. In the province of Trapani, fire has consumed hectares of Mediterranean vegetation on Monte Luziano in the Buseto Palizzolo area. The fire broke out during the night and had not yet been extinguished by morning. The mayor, Francesco Poma, expressed deep regret for what happened on Monte Luziano. He applauded the efforts of firefighters and citizen volunteers who joined the fight to protect lives and properties in the area. The mayor called for collaboration between the community and authorities to address this challenge and urged people to report suspicious behavior and contribute to investigations. He emphasized the importance of protecting the environment for a sustainable future and highlighted the significance of solidarity and collaboration during times of crisis.
