Fired Palermo official for slapping colleague’s buttocks
The former head of personnel at the Teatro Massimo in Italy has lost his appeal against dismissal for inappropriate behavior towards two female employees. He argued that he intended to pat one colleague’s back, not her buttocks, and that his remarks about another employee’s “youthful buttocks” were meant in a friendly, joking manner. However, the Court of Cassation rejected his appeal, stating that such behavior was offensive and disrespectful. The incidents occurred in 2017, and although a lower court initially ruled the dismissal as unjustified, the Court of Appeal overturned this decision. The Court of Cassation agreed with the Court of Appeal, emphasizing the breach of trust and formal relationship between the parties involved. The former head of personnel was responsible for preventing corruption in the workplace.
