Femicide in Mazara, virtual autopsy performed on Rosalia Garofalo
The first virtual autopsy was performed at the hospital of Sant'Antonio Abate in Trapani on the body of Rosalia Garofalo, the woman from Mazara del Vallo massacred for three days and killed by her husband.
The virtual cadaveric autopsy was performed with a total body CT examination with which information on the entire skeletal system is provided, highlighting the presence of lesions or foreign bodies in a non-invasive way. This technique, "Virtopsy", combines legal medicine and radiodiagnostics and allows to record all the documentation that can be consulted even after some time and after the burial or cremation of the body.
In addition, if the virtual autopsy is performed before the traditional examination, it can help guide the doctor in identifying significant findings.
