Family demands truth after woman dies in hospital after journey through three hospitals in Vittoria.
The relatives of a 56-year-old woman from Niscemi, in the province of Caltanissetta, who died on February 21 at the Vittoria hospital in Ragusa, have filed a complaint with the carabinieri in Vittoria to shed light on her death.
Twice, within twenty-four hours, on Monday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 20, the relatives brought the patient to the Caltagirone hospital for severe intestinal pain and vomiting, and twice she was sent home, discharged with a prescription for home care that had no effect: the woman continued to vomit and feel unwell, says the law firm Studio3A-Valore representing the family.
Then the woman was taken to the emergency room of the Vittoria hospital, where, after the initial examinations, she was directed to the hospital in Ragusa for a CT scan, as the one in Vittoria was not working.
The exam produced alarming results – says the law firm – the fifty-six-year-old woman, as explained to her relatives, was immediately returned to the Vittoria hospital for emergency surgery in the Surgery department. The next day she passed away.
