Ex-court clerk in Palermo accused of aiding mafia investigations.

The appeals court of Palermo partially accepted the appeal of Feliciano Leto, the former court messenger accused of passing on confidential information about ongoing investigations by consulting the files of the prosecutors. The court dropped the accusation of favoring Luigi Abbate, a boss of the Kalsa mafia. However, other charges were confirmed and Leto’s pretrial detention was upheld. Leto, who was responsible for transporting files from the prosecutor’s office, is accused of accessing and illicitly sharing secret investigative documents. He allegedly took the files outside and provided information about ongoing investigations and wiretaps to various people, causing damage to investigations into armed robberies, arms trafficking, and corruption. His activities were revealed by a spyware installed on his phone, recording his actions and conversations.
