The Palermo-born model Eva Riccobono is devastated by what has happened in Sicily in the past few hours with the fires that have devastated her homeland. A few hours ago, she posted a photo of her sister on social media and also wrote a dramatic post: “I have heard from my family that Palermo is in a disastrous situation, that the fires are not stopping. My home, where my family lives, is on a completely engulfed hill. They are evacuating people.”

The actress was not in Palermo, but she received constant updates from her family: “A farmhouse near our house has even exploded – she recounted. Maybe my house won’t make it, many houses have already been destroyed. There aren’t enough firefighters, the law enforcement agencies can’t handle it. I ask the rest of Italy if there is any way to help these families because everything is burned. All of Palermo. Never like in these days… My aunt told me that she has never seen anything like this. They were surrounded by flames last night: they only survived because the wind changed direction.”

Her sister, Gessica, also wanted to share on social media what was happening: “To be at the mercy of the wind because only it will decide if the flames will burn your house too, that is tough. The feeling that has turned into awareness that we live in a land completely in the hands of inept and criminal people, reached me. The second one hurts me more, I swear. Because I no longer see hope.”

At the end of the most dramatic moment, Eva Riccobono added: “My sister, alone with her partner and neighbors, fought to save our home”. And she emphasized: “It’s not just climate change. It’s incompetence and human wickedness.”
