EU funds: green light for ERDF 21-27 Sicily of 5.8 billion

(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, DECEMBER 09 – The European Commission has approved the operational program of the Sicily Region for the use of the European Fund for Regional Development, the ERDF, for the period 2021-2027. The overall financial envelope is 5.8 billion euros, of which 4.1 billion come from EU funds.

According to what was communicated by the Commission, the main objectives indicated by the Region in the context of sustainable urban development and the achievement of climate targets, intend to contribute to the growth of competitiveness in Sicily through investments in the green transition, in research and in the digitization of businesses and the public sector administration.

In fact, the program includes actions aimed at decarbonisation and mitigation, in line with the European REPowerEU plan, but also at satisfying mobility needs through the creation of an infrastructural system, digitized and environmentally sustainable, both for passenger traffic and for goods in urban and metropolitan areas. Lastly, the Region aims to guarantee adequate levels of protection and social inclusion, investing in education and training and enhancing the opportunities for full participation in people’s social and cultural life. .
