Etna’s Strombolian activity at Southeast crater

Strombolian activity with emissions of incandescent lava fragments and loud booms are currently occurring in the Southeast crater of Mount Etna. There is currently no ash emission from the crater. The levels of internal conduit tremors, which indicate the rise of magma within the volcanic edifice, are increasing and are at medium to high levels. The VONA alert, the bulletin from the INGV Catania observatory for aviation on Mount Etna, has been raised to orange since yesterday. The current eruptive activity of Europe’s tallest active volcano does not impact the operation of the Vincenzo Bellini international airport in Catania.
