Etna, the Brazilian found at an altitude of 2,800 meters: she spent the night in the ravines

The Brazilian town missing since yesterday afternoon, 8 December, on the southern slope of Etna was found by technicians from the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue. All traces of her were lost around 16.30 after she managed to send her last position, which placed her north of the Torre del Filosofo area at about 2,800 meters above sea level, far from the paths and beaten tracks. Disoriented by the darkness, the frozen ground and the strong wind, the woman descended towards the bottom of the Valle del Bove, where the rescuers found her near Monti Centenari, at about 1,700 meters above sea level.

She is in good health, though extremely worn out by the mishap. The particular morphology of the walls of the Valle del Bove, with the presence of ravines and small natural bivouacs allowed it to survive the winter night unscathed. After being escorted out of the inaccessible area, the Brazilian lady was entrusted to the 118 doctors present in the square of the Sapienza refuge with an ambulance.

The rescuers of the two Etna Nord and Etna Sud stations of the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue were engaged in the field searches, remotely coordinated by the CNSAs, together with the Sagf soldiers of the finance police, with men and a helicopter, the firefighters , Drago 142, the Forestry Department and the support of the snowcats of the Etna cableway.
