Errani and Svitolina shine at Palermo Ladies Open tennis tournament

The president of the Country Time Club in Palermo, Giorgio Cammarata, and Oliviero Palma, director of the Palermo Ladies Open, a WTA 250 tennis tournament scheduled from July 13 to 21 on the clay courts of the Palermo club, have officially announced the participants and the first wild cards for the 35th edition of the event.

The list of entries is led by Elina Svitolina, former world number 3 and current number 21 in the rankings, followed by Chinese players Yue Yuan and Xinyu Wang, French player Clara Burel, and Italian player Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Other Italian players who have qualified for the main draw based on their rankings are Lucia Bronzetti, Martina Trevisan, and Sara Errani. For Errani, it will be her fifteenth participation in the Palermo International after 21 years since her first time on the red clay courts of Mondello.

“The first thanks go to Sara, who has always been the mainstay of our tournament – emphasized Giorgio Cammarata and Oliviero Palma – we are happy for her success in doubles and we are happy to have her here again in singles. We also expect a lot from the other Italian players who will come together with Tathiana Garbin to prepare for the Olympics in Palermo.”

The first two wild cards have already been assigned: the first goes to Paula Badosa, former world number 2 and semifinalist in Palermo in 2019; the second to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. Two more invitations remain available, with one expected to go to a top-ten player. The four wild cards for the qualifying draw have been assigned to Dalila Spiteri, Aurora Zantedeschi, Francesca Curmi, and Mia Ristic.

About six thousand tickets have already been sold for the Palermo event. Tickets for individual days and tournament passes are still available on the VivaTicket circuit.
