Erice starts the 55th seminar on global emergencies

The “Ettore Majorana” Foundation and Scientific Culture Center in Erice inaugurates the 55th session of the International Seminars on Planetary Emergencies, a globally significant event that brings together experts and academics from around the world to discuss crucial issues for the future of our planet. The first seminar was held in 1981, during the Cold War when the world was sitting on a nuclear powder keg. Professor Antonino Zichichi brought together American and Russian scientists in Erice and initiated a dialogue between the heads of their respective nuclear programs. Until August 23rd, debates and presentations on topics related to global security, pandemics, energy sources, water, and other relevant issues will take place in Erice. Over 80 scientists and specialists from various fields, representing Europe, the Baltic countries, Russia, the US, Canada, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, will have the opportunity to present the results of their research and openly discuss their viewpoints on pressing topics. The 55th seminar will open on August 20th with a special video message from Professor Zichichi. The week will continue with specific themes guided by world-renowned experts, culminating in a public and media open meeting on August 23rd, where the presidents responsible for the various topics discussed will present their reports followed by a final debate. The event serves as an important platform to promote international collaboration, exchange of ideas, knowledge sharing among scholars and professionals from different disciplines, and to present cutting-edge research aimed at effectively addressing planetary emergencies with innovative and science-based solutions. The “Ettore Majorana” Foundation and Scientific Culture Center celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, showcasing six decades of significant contributions to the dissemination of scientific and cultural knowledge worldwide. In commemoration of this milestone, the Foundation has planned a series of special events, including high-level conferences, cultural exhibitions, and networking opportunities. Since its founding, the Study Center has been and continues to be a beacon for scientists and intellectuals worldwide. Through its 120+ schools in Erice, the Foundation plays a crucial role in promoting dialogue among the brightest minds in academia, a role that is universally recognized by the scientific community. These initiatives are part of the Erice Summer 2023 program, organized by the Municipality of Erice in collaboration with Erice Arte Foundation, Ettore Majorana Foundation, Funierice, and with the contributions of various associations and artists.
