Erice: Illegal waste dump of over 20,000 square meters seized

In Erice, an area of about 20 thousand square meters, in the Torrebianca area, where a real illegal dump of hazardous materials has been created, has been seized by the carabinieri. In the area, all kinds of waste have been piled up: car carcasses and trailers, asbestos sheets, furniture as well as scrap and construction waste. The entire area has been seized and entrusted to the landowner.

An investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators of this immense open-air landfill. In Mazara del Vallo, in the Borgata Costiera area, the forest carabinieri of the nature anti-crime center of Palermo – Trapani Detachment, stopped and checked a truck loaded with waste that, entering the countryside of Mazara, was dumping waste in an old abandoned quarry which it was transporting (earth and rock excavation, irrigation pipes, plastic processing residues and scraps). In the circumstance, the soldiers identified and reported the people on board the vehicle (a 76-year-old, a 64-year-old and a 61-year-old from the area) and seized the area and the truck used for transportation.
