Death of Carlo Giannetto, Sicilian Volleyball Icon, at 77

Carlo Giannetto, a prominent figure in Sicilian volleyball, has passed away at the age of 77 after a brief illness. He was known as a true master of the sport, having traveled across the island for over 50 years. Giannetto was the president of the New Gica Monreale volleyball team and the father of councilor Rosanna Giannetto, who also played a role in the team. Recently, his team achieved a historic promotion to Serie C. In 1980, Giannetto created the first male team in Monreale, winning championships in the 2nd and 1st division. He went on to coach in Palermo, Mazara, Terrasini, and Sciacca, winning numerous championships. As a physical education teacher, he influenced the lives of many aspiring volleyball players. The funeral will be held on Friday, October 6th, at 3 p.m. at the Church of Santa Teresa in Monreale.
