Criticism from unions and opposition over lack of industrial plan

Still no progress for Amat’s industrial plan. For the third consecutive time, the Board of Directors of the company has not approved the document awaited by the unions and necessary for the revival of the transport company. The postponement, as explained by the president Michele Mistretta, was motivated by the need to review some details. However, the climate of uncertainty has generated strong criticism.

Concetta Amella, city councilor and member of the committee of participatory companies and the environment, expressed great concern. “The waiting logic of Amat’s Board of Directors is not understood. The industrial plan, which was supposed to be approved by 30th September 2023 as established by the Conciliation Agreement of 27th June and the binding directive of 11th August, is still at a standstill. This delay is costing dearly: it is already being talked about 65,000 euros spent without any concrete result.”

Amella pointed the finger at Mistretta, accusing him of confusing the industrial plan with an inspection or a municipal interrogation, and of not clarifying his position on the matter. Without a plan, the councilor added, “it is not possible to define the services of the company or to sign a new service contract, the approval of which was scheduled by 31st March 2024.”

The current situation leaves Amat’s services far from minimum standards, continued Amella, with the city of Palermo remaining among the last in the rankings on quality of life. Hence, the urgent request to the President of the City Council, Giulio Tantillo, to summon Mistretta to explain to the citizens the reasons for this stalemate. In the meantime, the unions continue to urge the company to clarify the meal vouchers and the working conditions of the assistants, who are waiting for a full-time contract.
