ovid-19. Still a surge in infections on the island, 520 new cases are registered in the last 24 hours compared to 13,152 swabs processed on the island. The incidence is still close to 4%. The island is always third for new daily infections in Italy after Lazio and Veneto and closely followed by Lombardy and Tuscany.
In the network of infections in the individual provinces: Catania 107, Ragusa 103, Caltanissetta 81, Agrigento 72, Trapani 42, Syracuse 38, Palermo 34, Messina 23, Enna 20. In the last 24 hours, 2 deaths are returned which bring the total of victims to 6,021.
The current positives are 6,603 with an increase of another 412 cases. The recovered are 106. On the hospital front, there is a slight slowdown in patients who are now 180, 5 fewer than yesterday but a slight increase in intensive care which is now 22, or 2 more.
The municipalities of Riesi and Mazzarino, in the province of Caltanissetta, and Piazza Armerina, in the Ennese area still remain in the “red zone” for a week. This is foreseen by a new ordinance by the president of the Nello Musumeci Region, who adopted the measure given the persistence of a considerable number of Covid19 positives, as certified in the reports of the provincial health authorities on the epidemiological situation in the three centers. The restrictive measures will be effective until Thursday 29 July. To these three is added Gela for which the ordinance is still in force.
In Sicily, vaccines for over 80s are worrying and remain at 79%. A figure that is very far from the national average. In Italy, in fact, 88% received at least one dose of the vaccine, with a negligible weekly increase at national level (+ 0.4%).
Delta variant, concern for arrivals
At the airports of Catania and Palermo, arrivals are concerned in light of the Delta variant. Until the end of August, over one hundred thousand people will disembark from countries considered at risk for the Delta variant. The necessary checks will be carried out: summer and autumn are at stake. And we hope that they are enough and the concern remains.
Healthcare, three other construction sites are underway to strengthen the hospital network
New acceleration for the strengthening of the Sicilian hospital network by the commissioner structure led by the regional president Nello Musumeci. In fact, three new contracts were signed by the offices headed by Tuccio D’Urso for as many works on the island’s territory.
In particular, in Caltagirone, in the province of Catania, 16 sub-intensive therapy beds will be built at the Gravina hospital, of which eight are set up to be transformed, if necessary, into intensive care. The total restructuring of the emergency room is also planned, with the separation of the path of carriers of communicable diseases from other patients.
On the other hand, at the Ciss in Enna, the interventions of transformation of that complex into a recovery center for post-hatched patients will be completed: eight sub-intensive therapy places, necessary to be able to assist the most serious patients.
The third contract relates to the completion of the emergency room of the Civic hospital of Palermo, where the first lot is nearing completion. The works consist of a new radiological complex dedicated to carriers of communicable diseases and a changing room for medical and nursing staff, so that changes of clothes take place in absolute safety.
