Conviction Cancelled for Businessman from Siculiana Accused of Extortion
#Agrigento
Antonino Gagliano, a 56-year-old businessman from Siculiana, has had his conviction for extortion overturned by the judges of the Court of Appeal in Palermo. He was accused of using mafia methods to extort money from a fellow businessman. The judges determined that the alleged extortion did not take place, as the inflated invoice used for payment was found to be a formal justification. Gagliano had been arrested in November 2015 following a warrant from the Palermo anti-mafia district directorate. His original sentence of 9 years and 6 months has now been cancelled.
