Clash between two merchant ships off the coast of Sicily
An accident between two merchant ships occurred this morning off the coast of Sicily. According to preliminary information, a collision involving a general cargo ship flying the Liberian flag and a container ship flying the Portuguese flag occurred about 14 miles from Cape Passero. The causes of the incident are still being investigated. The Coast Guard operations center immediately dispatched ships and planes, including helicopters and the Atr 42, to monitor the situation and check for any environmental damage. At the moment, the two ships are slowly sailing towards the Sicilian coast.
