The conditions of the two siblings hospitalized at the Children’s Hospital in Palermo after their father Daniele Alba, 35, stabbed them along with their mother in their home in Cianciana, in the province of Agrigento, are still serious. The prognosis for the two children, aged 7 and 3, is reserved and both are in intensive care. The 7-year-old brother underwent two surgeries yesterday, one on the chest affecting a lung and the heart, and one in neurosurgery on the brain.

The little sister has several wounds on her face, and two very deep ones are of concern to the doctors. The girl, delivered by the man who had barricaded himself in the house, lost a lot of blood. In the next few hours, they will be awakened to check for any serious neurological damage. “The situation is evolving,” say the doctors from the hospital, “at the moment we cannot say more. Everything is being done to save them.”

The mother of the two children underwent surgery at the hospital in Ribera. The prognosis is reserved, but according to the doctors, she is not in life-threatening condition.

According to an initial reconstruction, Daniele Alba, a mechanic with a history of domestic violence, allegedly stabbed his wife and eldest son, forcing them out of the house while holding onto the youngest daughter. It was an emergency operator who convinced him to hand over the girl after approaching a window of the house with a basket. The homicidal fury erupted at the height of a family argument, with the woman reportedly wanting to leave him and return to Poland with the children. There have reportedly been other episodes of violence in the past, but never reported. The man is charged with attempted murder.
