The President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, contacted the CEO of Enel Distribuzione, Vincenzo Ranieri, in the afternoon, asking for an extraordinary commitment from Enel to resolve the emergency caused by the hundreds of electricity grid failures due to the exceptional heat wave and the overload of air conditioning systems. The CEO of Enel assured the President that starting tomorrow, they will reinforce the contingent already sent to Sicily with an additional task force consisting of personnel, power generators, and high-power power stations from all over Italy, according to a statement from the Region.

Schifani has been constantly informed about the situation by the head of the regional Civil Protection, Salvo Cocina, who has been in contact with the national Civil Protection for several days. The scenario of heat waves and the risk of further blackouts will continue to persist, along with interruptions to essential services such as water supply. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, the regional Civil Protection, considering the serious situation reported by the mayors, hospitals, and water and transportation companies, deems it necessary to immediately mobilize all available regional resources. President Schifani acknowledges the significant efforts made by Enel but believes that the involvement of national resources is indispensable.
