The municipal administration of Catania has won a ministerial funding of 70,000 euros from the ‘City that Reads 2023’ call for proposals thanks to a project carried out in partnership with 14 associations. This was announced by the Municipality of Catania. The project developed by the Municipality of Catania and positively evaluated by the Center for the Book and Reading, aims to promote reading and cultural events throughout the city with a particular focus on neighborhoods where cultural and educational poverty is more keenly felt. The funded program will lay the foundation for a networking programming aiming for new objectives related to the promotion of reading in Catania, involving all actors and stakeholders.
“This is an important result for Catania – said Mayor Enrico Tarantino – especially because it is the result of a shared planning with the signatories of the Reading Pact. A team effort that demonstrates the willingness to go beyond individual events and work towards a structural collaboration that places the theme of books and reading at the center of the cultural processes of our city, addressing exclusion and the many suburbs where educational poverty is most strongly felt.”
The partner associations of the Municipality are Akkuaria, No_Name, La Balena Bianca, Cavallotto Bookstores, Comitato Popolare Antico Corso, Angelo D’Arrigo Foundation Onlus, GAEditori, La Poltrona Rossa, Le città invisibili, Le Stelle in Tasca, Rinascimento poetico, Roda libri, Ti regalo una storia, Unione Italiana dei Ciechi e degli Ipovedentì.
