Catania teenager steals and sells former schoolmate’s phone online: reported

The police in Catania have reported an 18-year-old who allegedly stole an iPhone from a former classmate he met while she was going to the gym. While they were talking, the boy’s girlfriend arrived and verbally and physically assaulted the girl. Frightened, she sought refuge in the gym, leaving her bag with the smartphone on the street. After a few minutes, she checked that the couple had left and went outside to retrieve her bag, only to find that the phone was missing. The next day, she saw her phone being sold for 650 euros and reported the incident to the local police station. Pretending to be interested in buying the phone, the officers set up a meeting with the seller. When the young man arrived at the agreed location, he was immediately apprehended and searched, with the stolen phone found on him. The phone was returned to the victim.
