Catania, sold platforms of dubious origin: three reported for receiving stolen goods

The Carabinieri of the Operations Unit of the Catania Fontanarossa Company reported two brothers aged 44 and 38 and a 39 year old, all from Catania and already known to the police, for “receiving stolen goods in competition”.

In the late evening, the military of the Arma, while carrying out a service aimed at contrasting the widespread illegality in the Librino district, while passing through via del Maggiolino noticed three men intent on loading various used iron materials onto an Iveco Daily van to set up scaffolding in the building industry. Given the late hour, the Carabinieri have decided to investigate the incident by carrying out the necessary investigations against the trio.

The reconstruction of the facts revealed that the 44-year-old would have been contacted earlier by the 39-year-old who would have offered him the sale of the 18 platforms found by the Carabinieri inside the van. However, following the inspection of the vehicle, the military counted another 72 platforms that the 44-year-old would have received from another man, without showing any document that could certify their regular origin.

Immediate investigations allowed the Carabinieri to identify a deposit located inside a garage in via Galermo, used by the 44-year-old, inside which a further 450 iron platforms were found, for which the man had no provided documents proving legitimate possession, as well as various material for scaffolding with a total value estimated at 10,000 euros, all subject to seizure.
