Catania, also Luca Parmitano in… soak for the San Silvestro a mare

History repeats itself, after 60 editions and two years of hiatus due to the pandemic. Spring day, optimal external and water temperature, 146 women and men, of all ages, athletes, amateurs and simple brave dived into the water for the San Silvestro a mare, in the small port of Ognina, one of the historic seaside villages of the city .

In memory of Lallo Pennisi, organizer of the first and many other editions, the honor of directing fell to Giusi Malato, multi-decorated water polo champion, with the contribution of Nuoto Catania and the hospitality of the Jonica rowing club.

An exceptional participant, the astronaut from Catania Luca Parmitano, in the amateur category, did not win, but he is used to competing on different routes and distances. In the absolute category, the most important, the 19-year-old volleyball player from Nuoto Catania, Riccardo Torrisi, was first at the finish line, ahead of Alessandro Cacia and Diego Platania.

Other categories in the water, disabled, under 17, women, masters under 40, masters over 40, amateurs under 50, amateurs over 50. San Silvestro a mare was also an opportunity to launch environmentalist messages and social initiatives.
