Catania Airport, Schifani responds sternly to Minister Urso: “Barren and instrumental controversies”
#Catania
“In contrast to Ministers Crosetto and Salvini, who immediately and responsibly took action to contribute to the reopening of Catania airport after the fire that destroyed part of Terminal A, there are those, like Minister Adolfo Urso, who prefer to fuel sterile controversy by casting doubts on the infrastructural deficiencies of an airport system that, until the incident, was recognized as a significant international hub in terms of air traffic, passenger movements, and ground services. These remarks are made by the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani.
As the governor of the island points out, just as it happened with the reform of the Chambers of Commerce, the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy once again intervenes in a disproportionate manner, with more concern for localized issues rather than the interest of the entire Sicilian population. It is regrettable that the same level of interventionism was not promptly demonstrated towards the airline industry lobby, which has been imposing exorbitant fares on both Sicilians and numerous tourists for months. My government has already filed two complaints with the Antitrust Authority and submitted a report to the Prosecutor’s Office in Rome.
According to President Renato Schifani, what happened at Fontanarossa calls for the broadest cooperation and joint commitment of all institutions, as already demonstrated by the absolute synergy between the Sicilian Region, ENAV (Italian Air Navigation Service Provider), and the Italian Air Force, as well as AST (the regional public transport company), which have been working together for days to minimize the inconveniences for the many transit passengers at the Catania airport. I am certain that the same institutional synergy can and should be found between all representatives of the Meloni government and the Sicilian Region.”
