Tommaso Geraci, a 68-year-old man from Castelvetrano and brother of Francesco Geraci, known for having kept the “family” jewels of Totò Riina, has been acquitted by the Court of Marsala. His wife Maria Lucrezia Roccafiorita, aged 63, and their children Antonino and Irene, aged 40 and 35 respectively, were also acquitted. Another individual, Nicolò Marcello D’Alberti, aged 59 and from Marsala, was also acquitted. They were all charged with money laundering, embezzlement, and false invoicing for a total of 675,000 euros aimed at tax evasion.
According to investigators from the financial police and carabinieri, D’Alberti, as the owner of a sole proprietorship, provided hundreds of false invoices between 2012 and 2017 for nonexistent operations. After receiving transfers of 624,000 euros from the company “G.i.a. srl,” whose administrators were Tommaso and Antonino Geraci and which managed two “gold buying” stores, one in Castelvetrano and the other in Mazara, D’Alberti allegedly returned the sums in cash. The initial accusation also stated that the Geraci family used this money, presumed to be from illegal sources (allegedly from robberies), to purchase gold objects and had them melted down by the unaware company “Valmet.” Tommaso and Antonino Geraci were arrested in February 2019 for these alleged facts. Real estate and bank accounts were also seized, which have now been released by the Court of Marsala.
