“Thank you for a lovely holiday in this little property. We had a great time staying here for the week. Sampieri is a small but charming village. The beach is great and so close to this property. The supermarket sells everything (particurarly freshly baked bread in early evening). Look out for a man in a little van selling fresh fruit and vegetables in the early evening too.

There are lots of nice beaches and places to visit nearby. We had a good day trip to Noto and Siracusa “.

“Hello ‘Stone house, you will remain in our hearts”.

Hugh and Catalina S. – Switzerland.

As a watercolorist (Fernanda Paternò Castello on FB and Instagram) my favorite theme has always been the Baroque of eastern Sicily and, despite living between Catania and Barcelona, I have “landed” in Sampieri for twenty years and there are frequent escapes in the ” Casazzurra “, where I also work as a calligrapher, alternating this place of the soul with the other two places I have chosen:
SAMPIERI: my “African” destination.

In South Africa I contracted the “African sickness” and, in Sampieri, I found my little Africa: the same vegetation and the same conformation of the territory (sand dunes and volcanic rocks) with the advantage, however, of having a warm sea and not the cold and stormy Indian Ocean.

Here I found the warmth and humanity of the people .. elephants are missing, but up to 500 thousand years ago they lived in Sicily and on the island of Malta, in a reduced size.

The Palaeoloxodon Falconeri, the smallest elephant ever existed on earth, whose skeleton, barely one meter high, is that of a female and comes from the Spinagallo cave, near Floriidia and Cassibile, in the province of Syracuse.

CATANIA: the volcanic city, where I was born and where I live part of the year having my studio and home in my “Secret Garden”, on the eighth floor, in the center of the city, with a view of Etna and the sea (elements that should not never miss!).

BARCELONA: The avant-garde city, where I have study, work, friends and, above all, my daughter Eleonora who has lived there for 15 years, working as a graphic designer.

At the end of 2005 love at first sight for an old fishermen’s house in Sampieri .. right in front of my house.

Then a patient restoration to maintain its original appearance and provide it with every comfort. With the love for everything that is tradition, with the passionate research of the materials used in the area, with the desire to make guests feel at home and to make their stay unforgettable, I revived the two apartments ” Fisherman’s House “and” Stone House “.

From a very young age when my son Claudio went fishing on the pier or, as a teenager, he devoted himself to surfing on the waves of Sampieri,
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery, he chose to be a photographer.

We all love this place for its tranquility, for the inhabitants, for the geographical position, for the dazzling sun, for the clean and warm sea, for the beach with the dunes, for its insertion in an area rich in history.

What my guests tell me or leave me written on the Guest Book is a confirmation that I have been able to give them the hospitality I would like to have during my travels.
