Another fire, for the third consecutive day, in the same valley in Caltanissetta, but this time the flames are spreading from via Angelo Custode to the cemetery, covering a vast area. The fire also reached a private villa, where a metal structure caught fire. The firefighters are extinguishing the blaze.
Today (July 23rd), around ten people have been evacuated, in addition to the twenty people who were already evacuated from their homes yesterday and were offered the possibility to stay overnight in a B&B by the municipality. Ground vehicles, two helicopters from the regional forest department of Sicily, and volunteers from Enna are involved. Firefighters, police, and the Red Cross have stayed in the area all night, but this afternoon the flames started on another front. Once again, firefighting operations, with a temperature of 42 degrees and a scirocco wind, are proving to be extremely difficult.
