Thousands of visitors have already taken part in the first two appointments with the Living Nativity of Caltabellotta which this year, for its XXVII edition, sees on stage in the streets of the ancient village of Agrigento, sixty actors and musicians directed by director Marco Savatteri.
A show within the show of a jewel village, following the tradition of the first living nativity scene in Sicily created in a small town.
The next two appointments tomorrow, Thursday 5, and Friday 6 January, are limited in number. Last 26 December, the arrival in Caltabellotta of around eight thousand people put a strain on the organizational machine, although it was fine-tuned and now further strengthened; hence, the decision of the Municipality in agreement with the organizing committee to limit access to 1,800 spectators per evening. The goal is to guarantee everyone optimal use of the show, tastings and support services, from bathrooms to shuttles.
The entrance coupon (6 euro full, 4 euro reduced for children up to 12 years) which can be purchased at the link of the Vie dei Tesori website, partner of the project, includes both the theatrical itinerary and the four tastings:
Friday 6, bus from Palermo thanks to the collaboration of Autoservice: to book
Those who have previously purchased the coupon online and have not yet used it can go either tomorrow, Thursday 5, or Friday 6 January.
The event, included among those of maximum tourist importance by the Tourism Department of the Sicilian Region, sees the collaboration of all five associations of the village and has Le Vie dei Tesori as a partner, of which Caltabellotta is part of the circuit of villages.
The jewel village of Caltabellotta, on the other hand, already looks like a crib in itself, with its maze of medieval streets at a thousand meters above sea level, dominated by the ruins of the Norman castle, the hermitage dedicated to San Pellegrino and the necropolis Sicane. Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Swabians, have left extraordinary testimonies in over two millennia of history.
What better setting for the extraordinary show, directed by Marco Savatteri, founder of the musical school of Agrigento and author of shows in Italy and abroad.
Sixty actors and musicians, professionals and locals, stage the miracle of the Nativity in the narrow streets of the town, where the old peasant houses carved into the rock look like the Bethlehem of two thousand years ago and where the tastings (macco di fave, sausage and wine, bread and oil, ricotta cheese and olives) are stations of a spectacular journey, between music and lights. A widespread theater project that starts from the community and the artists of Savatteri Produzioni, for a site specific theatrical format.
«An immersive and experiential reconstruction – says Marco Savatteri – in a unique place carved into the rock. We focus on the search for the ancient and the true: in fact, the ancient musical traditions, songs and novenas recovered from every part of Sicily will be represented in the crib and brought back to life by actors and musicians; also on stage the ancient crafts with objects, costumes and theatrical actions that converge towards the Nativity; all intertwined in a composite and harmonic dramaturgy».
«We are happy and proud – says the mayor Calogero Cattano – to have managed to involve as many local associations as possible. Caltabellotta, with its history, its monuments and its beauties, will be able to give magical emotions to those who come to visit us». The deputy mayor Biagio Marciante adds: «The presence of Marco Savatteri and his boys, together with the young actors of Caltabellotta, is the added value of this edition. We have been working tirelessly for months to plan an event of great artistic and cultural appeal. Many young people involved, driven by the desire to give life to an innovative edition. In fact, there will be many novelties and, thanks also to the synergy with the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation, we will offer new services that will allow us to improve the reception of tourists and visitors».
«Caltabellotta – says Laura Anello, president of the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation – was one of the most visited towns for Borghi dei Tesori Fest, not only because the site of the ancient Jewish synagogue was open to visitors, a rare and highly importance, but because the whole community got involved, as is happening now in this nativity scene which marks another stage in the process of cultural and social regeneration that Caltabellotta is undertaking”.
In addition to tastings, on the occasion of “Caltabellotta Città Presepe”, you will be able to appreciate many typical products of the area. In the square in front of the entrance to the route, a small and well-kept exhibition-market will be set up with young producers who will talk about the specialties of the area: oil in primis, cheeses, fruit.
